Huge plant sale planned in support of Skokie school
Skokie’s McCraken School will soon be hosting an event to help fund its school garden, and local green thumbs have been asked to show their support.
The school will be holding its annual plant sale, and the public is invited to purchase their vegetable seedling transplants and other starters for their gardens. A wide assortment will be available, including peppers, greens, and tomatoes. The monies raised during the function will be used to help support the McCraken School Garden Club’s summer programming.
According to the flier that promotes the sale to the local community, all the plants are in top condition and were grown with care. They will be priced between $2.00 and $5.00, depending on the species and cultivar.
In keeping with the outdoor theme, the school also announced that it recently received the benches that will be installed in its outdoor learning spaces. Local artist Jason Cohn custom made the four benches, which altogether will provide seating for at least 20 students. The materials used for these were gathered from sustainable sources, and they will make it possible for teachers to take learning outside in the fresh air and sunshine. This can help them to provide real life examples of the principles they are being taught in the classroom, which can help them to be able to get better grades in Skokie.
The sale will be held on May 21st from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm in the school’s garden. Everyone is welcome to attend and support their local school.
