Largo to offer STEM courses this summer
Parents of students in Largo, especially who are concerned about their kids gaining a competitive edge after they graduate high school or college, may want to check out a program being offered this summer for all students in Pinellas County.
Aimed at grades four through seven, a series of summer camps will be focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
STEM camps and other activities have become popular in recent years to help raise awareness of STEM careers in students of all ages, but most specifically in young women. The recent push has been made to address the continuing low ratio of girls compared to boys who chose STEM majors when they enter college and STEM careers after they graduate. The hope is that by offering special courses or camps, more girls will become excited about a career in the one of the STEM fields and choose it as their major when they enter college.
Parents who believe their child may find such a camp challenging, may wish to also sign them up with tutoring services in Largo.
Pinellas County will be offering four different STEM summer camps this summer. The one at Pinellas Technical College in St. Petersburg will run from June 20th through the 23rd. The one in East Lake Middle School in Tarpon Springs will run from June 27th to the 30th. Pinellas Middle School in Pinellas Park will have one running from July 11th through the 14th, and Pinellas Technical College in Clearwater will run its sessions from July 18th through the 21st.
