Registration open for Chesapeake Public Schools Free Preschool Initiative
Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) is now accepting applications for its Free Preschool Initiative.
The district will be offering the full day program, on a free-of-charge basis, to families with children who will be four years old on or before this coming September 30. The goal is for it to provide them with an opportunity to get a solid foundation for their future academic careers while socializing and having fun with others of their own age.
The initiative was developed to meet the needs of students who are experiencing economic, social, and other factors that may be negatively impacting their development. These can include influences such as homelessness, family income, or having physical or mental challenges. Each classroom will be limited to 18 boys and girls, and CPS will provide transportation and teaching staff, as well as breakfast and lunch assistance, for those who have completed an application for this benefit. It is hoped that this additional support will allow the children who take part to be able to get better grades in Chesapeake.
The program will be offered at seven different locations throughout the CPS district, while the screening center for the initiative is located at the CPS Instructional Services Center, which is located at 304 Cedar Road. Those who are interested in registering their son or daughter can pick up a registration packet from the services center or the schools that will be participating.
Additional details about the program, as well as application forms and other documents, can be found on the Chesapeake Public Schools website.
