Tutoring FAQs

All Your GradePower Learning Questions, Answered!

How Much Do Programs Cost? (See pricing)

GradePower Learning® charges a competitive hourly rate that is consistent with professionally trained supplemental education tutoring companies.

From coast to coast, the hourly rate will vary, so check with your local GradePower Learning® for the fee in your area.

The total monthly cost will vary according to how often your child attends class. Most students attend a minimum of two 1-hour classes a week, equaling about 8 hours of instruction a month.

What Are Your Teaching Hours?

Generally our centers are open during after-school hours, offering classes from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday-Thursday, and open for classes on Saturday mornings.

We also offer learn-to-read programs for students throughout the day from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Center hours will vary by location. Please consult the center closest to you for actual hours of operation, as it may differ slightly.

How Big Are The Classes?

Our regular programs run at small tables with three students to one teacher. This is a ratio that allows for one-on-one instruction balanced with individualized work. Each student gets a chance to interact with the teacher as well as a chance to work on their own.

We also offer small group programs and workshops with usually no more than 8-10 students per session.

Are the Tutors Trained Teachers?

Yes—all of our tutors are fully trained in the GradePower Learning® system as well as having a post-secondary education. And the majority of our tutors are also trained in various areas of public and private education with a variety of specialties.

What if My Child Doesn’t Like Thier Program?

Talk to us! If your child is struggling with our programs, please let us know. Our aim is to make GradePower Learning® a fun and engaging place to learn for every student, and if your child is unhappy, we’ll work to fix whatever the problem is.

Once the first class jitters pass, the majority of our students love coming to class to report on their school progress and stock up on high-fives.

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

GradePower Learning® has a 30-day cancellation policy.

How Long Does it Take Until my Child Sees Success?

This answer has many variables. It depends mostly on what your goals are for your child and what your definition of success is.

For some parents, success is being able to read and understand written paragraphs without fighting, for others it’s getting an A plus on a calculus exam.

Each child’s goals are unique, and for that reason, the answer will depend on you and your child.

That being said, to reach maximum cognitive gain, we recommend about 100 hours of instruction. If your child attends two 1-hour classes a week, it adds up to about 8 hours a month of instruction.

Generally speaking, it takes about a year to reach 100 hours.

How Much Do Children Typically Improve?

How much a child improves depends entirely on the learning objectives and the child’s learning pace. It also depends on how frequently your child attends class.

We measure success by identifying goals together during regularly scheduled Lesson Review meetings. Together, parents and center staff set goals unique to each child’s needs, whether it’s recognizing sight words or mastering quadratic equations, or even simply not forgetting to do homework. Then, at the next meeting, we track progress. Are the goals being met? Do the targets need to be revised?

The biggest indicator of improvement usually comes from something that can’t easily be measured—how a child feels about school and learning. Usually after a few classes (and after the initial jitters have worn off) students start to feel better about school and learning. They are more motivated, and more confident. Struggles become fewer, and attitudes about school improve. To many parents, this is the best improvement of all.
